Star Energy Group was a fast growth integrated UK onshore energy company combining gas, oil and electricity production and gas storage.
Milestone supported the management team in executing a buy and build strategy during a tough time in the business cycle (oil at $10 / barrel) in order to build a diversified energy production business. Funding two acquisitions, requiring £40 million of equity, and helping attract additional co-investors to support growth, Star Energy became the second largest onshore UK oil producer and one of the UK's largest gas storage businesses.
The business floated on AiM in May 2004 in order to secure additional funding for the next stage of growth and further develop its gas storage business. Milestone retained a significant minority stake post IPO, ultimately selling to a trade buyer who bought the whole business.
